Happy Friday boowkworms. Today I am delighted to be part of the tour for The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick. On the tour today I am sharing Phaedra's top five travel destinations on her wish list. Want to go to all of them myself too! Don't forget to follow along the tour; other stops listed below.
My Top Five Wish List Travel Destinations by Phaedra Patrick
Sri Lanka
My husband and I toured this beautiful, spiritual country in 1999, and got married there. From the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala to the rock temples at Dambulla, from the tea plantations in the hill country to the golden sandy beaches, I’d love to revisit them all. Back then, I only made it half way up Mount Sigiriya (Lion Rock), but this time I’d climb all the way to the top! We’d visit the hotel where we got married - perhaps somewhere to bear in mind for our twentieth anniversary.
Cappadocia, Turkey
I once saw this amazing place on a travel programme and immediately added it to my travel wish list. It’s situated in central Turkey and is the home of strange rock formations formed from volcanic deposits. Many are said to resemble ‘fairy chimneys’. Centuries ago, people carved out houses, churches and monasteries to form entire cities from the rocks. I’d take a hot air balloon to float over the region and gaze down in awe.
Croatia
I’ve been to Croatia five times, to Dubrovnik, Cavtat, Zadar and Porec. It’s my favourite country and I’d love to go again, this time to visit Split, the national parks and to travel around. Croatia’s got the perfect mix of history, gorgeous food, sunshine, warm sea and a chilled-out, friendly vibe. Okay, so the beaches are rather pebbly, but that’s the only downside. The rest of it is just stunning.
New York
Excitingly, I’m visiting the US for the first time this Spring, for a pre-publication book tour. It’s so difficult to choose just one wish list destination in America but I’ve plumped for the big one – New York. The buildings, the neon lights, the yellow taxis, Grand Central Station, Central Park, the Empire State and Chrysler buildings – there are so many iconic sights. I think the city might be a little too large, noisy and overwhelming for me, but what an experience to visit!
Dubai
I’ve always been fascinated by skyscrapers and Dubai is home to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Standing at 829.8 m (2,722 ft), there’s no way I’d go to the top but I’m happy to just stand on the pavement and gaze up. The skyscrapers and beaches must be a real contrast to the labyrinth of spice-scented souks in the city.
The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper is a joyous celebration of life's infinite possibilities, heralding the arrival of a major new talent in Phaedra Patrick.
