Today I am delighted to host my stop on the tour for How to Find Love in a Bookshop. I not only have a review of this gorgeous book, but a review of my favourite Independent bookshop as it is Independent Booksellers week.
I think just the title of this book is any book lovers dream, how wonderful it would be to find love in a bookshop. It is also a perfect book for a booklover has not only are you reading a book, you are reading about books and a bookshop.
Set in the beautiful village of Peasebrook, Emilia has returned to say a last goodbye to her Father Julius. She has promised that she will continue to run the Nightingale Bookshop in his memory, but doesn't realise the difficulties that the shop is in and doesn't know if she will be able to keep the shop running.
I know it a massively overused word when describing something but this book really was lovely. Despite a melancholy start, I very quickly became wrapped up in this delightful story. The characters felt real and believable and I felt like I got to know each of them like friends whilst reading. I liked their intricacies in personality and how they all touched each other lives. I wasn't expecting this to feature so many scintillating characters, so it was actually a welcome surprise and enjoyed reading all their own stories within the book and bring more depth to the story. And it wasn't just about the characters and their stories, but the books they love to read too. There are some special little breaks in chapters with each of the characters favourite books listed, I liked seeing if I had a read any and a few more got added to my to read list.
This book had a very villagey feel, everyone mucks in and helps one another out and can't walk down the street without seeing someone they know. What very much is the hub of the village and the story though is of course the wonderful Nightingale Books. This beautiful bookshop brings the community of Peasebrook together through their love of books and reading. It is the type of bookshop that should feature in every town and village, I was so utterly charmed by it.
This is one the most perfect books to curl up with and read and get utterly lost in. I must say that the ending was perfect and brought a big smile to my face.
Heartfelt and poignant, How to Find Love in a Bookshop was a perfect read that manages to bring books to life.
Bags of Books
Bags of Books is an independent Children's Bookshop based in the lovely village of Lewes in East Sussex and it is one of my favourite bookshops, I just wish I could get there more often.
When you first walk in, you are hit with the delightful smell of books and beautifully laid out and vibrant shop. It's like a mini labyrinth of books from young children to young adult and I could genuinely spend hours in here. The displays are gorgeous and so appealing and I know that children love spending time in this delightful shop. Children can sit down and colour in pictures or get settled with their favourite book. This shop has been made to be appealing and fun to children and there are games they can play and can buy too.
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and quick to help you find what you are looking for.
Overall I love this little bookshop in the beautiful village of Lewes and I always try and go back to it when I can.
