Top Ten Tuesday - Books I Have Added in Litsy

Litsy has a really handy feature where you can add a book to your 'to read' shelf if it catches your eye! I thought it would be fun to see 10 books I have added to that shelf recently.

Thoughts: Frankly, I think the cover of this one caught my eye at first. And then I read the synopsis. It is a bit out of my 'normal' reading, but it sounds good!

Thoughts: I, of course, know who Felicia Day is and think this would be a fun read!

Thoughts: Not sure how I missed this one, but it is supposed to be one of those books that is just a great to look as it is to read!

Thoughts: This one sounded really good and like the next day, it was an e-book deal. Looking forward to reading it!

Thoughts: This has been on my radar before, but then I forgot about it. It was nice to have the reminder that I still need to check it out!

Thoughts: A fun sounding book about monsters. I guess it is a series, so curious to see what they are like.

Thoughts: I have read books about the Salem Witch Trials in the past, so I am thinking this is a good chance to revisit the subject!

Thoughts: The audio of this is on Scribd, so planning to get to it soon!

Thoughts: Margaret Atwood is one of those authors that I either love or hate. I am really curious about this one and hope it will be a love!

Thoughts: Another one that is sort of out of my norm, but sounds really good!

So, these are just some of many since joining Litsy. Are you on Litsy? You can find me there as bookishnerd!

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
~ Since I actually finished some things last week, I get to talk about new things!
I am currently reading The Promise of Canada by Charlotte Gray. 2017 is Canada's 150th birthday, so lots of stuff will likely be coming out to commemorate that. This is the first one on my radar because I really enjoy Gray. And, this is really well done so far. I am about halfway. Then, I am reading Bad Feminist in my attempt to read some essays/short story collections on my TBR. I started this when it was new, but like normal put it aside and never got back to it. For my novel, I started Dark Matter. I am still early in, but good so far.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY LISTENING TO?
~ I am listening to Feedback by Mira Grant as my Audible audio. I listened to the rest of the series on audio, so might as well continue the trend. On Scribd I am listening to Becoming Jazz by Jazz Jennings. I have never seen the television show, but I have heard good things about the book and was curious about checking it out.

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
~ I managed to finish a lot of stuff recently. On Monday, I finally finished Gemina. It was really good, but it took a while to get into it because I have been so moody with my reading lately. I am looking forward to the sequel. On audio, I finished What I Saw and How I Lied and Falling Free. They were both really good. Falling Free was a reread! And, then, I finally finished The Geek Feminist Revolution. I had been reading it all month and was glad I was able to finish it as the month ended.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WILL READ NEXT?
~ I am still early into most of the stuff I am reading, so hard to say when I will even get a chance to read something else. I think my next Audible listen will be another book by Lois McMaster Bujold. I have some audios in my wish list for my Scribd project. I guess it depends on what catches my interest next. As to actual reading, I have some non-fiction books on my radar for NonFiction November and then there is always my TBR for the fiction choices.

Nonfiction November & The Intimidating TBR Tag

When I saw that Nonfiction November was a thing for November, I decided that it was time for me to join in because I love nonfiction and really do not read it any more. Clearly, my reading plans this year have been derailed a lot because of life this year, but I may accomplish something, right?

What do I want to read?

1. The Promise of Canada by Charlotte Gray
2. Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay
3. Lab Girl by Hope Jahren
4. The View from the Cheap Seats by Neil Gaiman

1. What was your favourite nonfiction read of the year?
~ This is a tough one. It is either As You Wish by Cary Elwes or A Slip of the Keyboard by Terry Pratchett.

2. What nonfiction book have you recommended the most?
~ Probably the Pratchett. His fiction is awesome, but have you checked out his nonfiction?

3. What is one topic or type of nonfiction you haven't read enough of yet?
~ This is actually a sparse year of nonfiction in general. I would like to get more in general this year, but I have been trying to do better with essay collections and hope to get to a couple more before the year is out!

4. What are you hoping to get out of participating in Nonfiction November?
~ Book recommendations! I don't need anymore books, but recommendations can't help, right? lol

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I saw Jenny had done this, so I decided to as well!
1. What book have you been unable to finish?
~ Books that typically I start and do not finish are usually very long or short story collections. I am atrocious with both! This year there are a lot of books I have started and then not finished because my mind has been elsewhere most of the year. More recently I started The Round House because everyone seems to love it. It's good, but I haven't picked it up in like a week or more. If you are depressed to begin with, depressing books are not a good idea... I likely will put it aside for now and pick it up when my head is better.
2. Which book haven't you read yet because you haven't had the time?
~ ugh, so many. This is a complicated question when you have a TBR that is always out of control! There are many books I have wanted to read for months and just haven't got around to. I am really struggling with finding reading time... It just seems like there is always other things to do and reading takes the backseat. And, there is the mood thing. If the books are slower or depressing, I am just not interested this year. One that pops to mind is The Underground Railroad. It is a book that lots of people have loved and I just haven't had a chance to read it. And, right now, I am not sure if it will happen very soon because of my whole mood...
3. Which book haven't you read yet because it's a sequel?
~ Oh, me and sequels... I love series. I get really excited to find out what is going to happen next. And then... fizzle. I have never been good about finishing one book in a series and then immediately picking up the next one, either, so that doesn't help! One of my goals for the year was to read all of the Iron Druid Series and make a dent in my Lois McMaster Bujold books. Oh, and re-read Robin Hobb. At the beginning of the year I was all into this project... Then, it fizzled. And, it is a definitely a me issue. I just suck at series. I am trying to do the Lois McMaster Bujold on audio, so definitely won't finish that this year. And, I haven't read anything by the other two authors in months.
4. Which book haven't you read yet because it's brand new?
~ Amazingly, the newest book in my house is Promise of Canada by Charlotte Gray and I have all ready started it! It would be the newest released book I own at the moment, too. Before that, there is The Comet Seekers. I bought this on a whim because it sounded good when it got buzz around BEA, but then I really have not seen anything else about it. I still grabbed a copy, though, and it is patiently waiting for me to get around to it. (As well as so many other books...)
5. Which book haven't your read yet because you read a book by the same author and didn't enjoy it?
~ I don't read Isabel Allende anymore because I just do not like her newer stuff as much as her older stuff. Her early stuff like The House of the Spirits and Daughter of Fortune were both really good. I lost interest around Zorro and have hardly read her since. She used to be an auto-buy and I really should try some of her other stuff, but why are so many authors moving away so much from the stuff that made them famous?
6. Which book haven't you read yet because you're just not in the mood for it?
~ I suppose I should have read ahead on these questions. lol My issue is I just don't know what I am in the mood for lately. Even what could be a good pick isn't working well for me. I am also trying really hard to get caught up in reading to take my mind off everything else. It works when I have long periods of time to read, but it doesn't work so well when I am busy. I just don't make time for it. I think one that pops to mind is Homegoing. I know people really like it, but it starts kind of quiet and so I couldn't get into it. Hopefully soon, though!
7. Which book haven't you read yet because it's humongous?
~ ha. There are a few chunksters that have been hiding on my TBR for way too long... If I had to pick, I will go with Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. (Jenny mentioned it for a different reason in her post, so it is on my mind.) I suspect that given the chance, I will really like it, but with the exception of The Fireman earlier this year, my reading has been shorter stuff...
8. Which book haven't you read yet because it was a cover buy that turned out to have poor reviews?
~ As Jenny said in her post, this is a very specific question and really doesn't apply to me... I very rarely impulse buy anymore because I own so many books to begin with! So, I am going to change this to a book I have because of the cover and the reviews, but I am not sure if it is a 'me' book. That book is Bellweather Rhapsody. It sounds good, but it also sounds way out of my normal zone. I don't read as much out of my zone as I used to because I read too widely as it is. But, it comes recommended and everyone likes music. I am not sure when I will get to it because my reading is so slow lately, but we will see how it goes!
9. What is the most intimidating book in your TBR pile?
~ Typically, I would answer some sort of classic. But, when I bought my e-reader, I got rid of all my classics because it takes me forever to get to them and I was in the land of free e-books that were classics. (I even read some back then... Those were the days...) Now, I am not so sure I am intimidated by anything on my bookshelves. It is more about time nowadays. If it takes me like two weeks to listen to a 6 hour audiobook, just imagine how long it would take me to read a longer work! I will go with The Pillars of the Earth. It used to be on my TBR, but I got rid of it at one point. When my grandmother got rid of her books, I took her copy. So, now it is back and maybe I will read it this time!
Top Ten Tuesday - Ten Books I Read Because of the R.I.P. Challenge
As this is the Halloween freebie, I thought I would look back on the R.I.P. Challenge and see what books I read during that challenge that I really enjoyed!
Read in 2013. Just one of those books that has a great story, but is also just great to look at and own!
Read in 2013. I still have never read the sequels to this book even though I enjoyed this one!
Read in 2011. Love this book! I have also listened to the audio of it!
Read in 2011. Really enjoyed this series opener... Still have not read the sequels.
Read in 2011. I used to read classics and loved this one. Really must get back to reading classics...
Read in 2011. Kate Morton is one of my favourite authors. I have read all of her books except her newest!
Read in 2010. Loved this book. (Also read My Cousin Rachel for R.I.P and loved that one, too.) I had plans to reread this, but would have to actually be reading to do that!
Read in 2008. Really enjoyed this book by Gaiman. Another I keep wanting to reread!
Read in 2008. I love this collection! I have a larger collection of her short stories that I really need to get around to reading!
Read in 2008. I never had much luck with her novel, but I loved this short story collection!
WWW Wednesday - On Thursday (3)
My week has been a bit disorganised because Casey didn't come back in after being out Monday night, and we still have not found her. She is usually pretty predictable when she gets out, so I am concerned to say the least. I find working from home, I keep getting up and opening the door and calling for her. It means I am not settled doing anything this week... So, this post will not be all that different than last week...
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
~ I have been mostly reading The Round House by Louise Erdrich, but I think it is a bit too slow paced for my mood. It is good, though! Last night I started Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff because I think this pace is better for me right now. I am only 60 pages in, but it is good so far. I think this will likely be a better fit for me right now. And, then, I am still technically reading The Geek Feminist Revolution, but keep forgetting about it... oops!
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY LISTENING TO?
~ This has not changed from last week, which is crazy for me lately. I am still listening to What I Saw and How I Lied and Black Rabbit Hall. They are both really good, but I am just not making time for audio like I normally do...
WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
~ I finished The Nightingale. It was really good, but probably also not the exact book for my mood of late, so it took me forever. At least I enjoyed it, though! I hadn't read a historical fiction set in WWII in a very long time. It was a good one to go with to get into it again! I also read Fables: The Wolf Among Us - Volume 2. I had started off the week on a reading high, but I didn't know Casey was missing yet... Anyway, the Fables spin-offs, for me, are never quite as good as the original series, but it was good and I am glad I finally got around to reading it. And now, I have read everything and have no idea if there is anything else coming from the Fables world?
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WILL READ NEXT?
~ I had big plans, folks. Now I have no idea if I will even finish a book this week let alone what to go with next. I am just not good at this whole not knowing thing. Casey could be fine, but she is not here wailing at me for food. I just feel a little off with her not under foot. Last night I actually forgot to feed Finn because I always feed him when I feed Casey, and Casey wasn't here to remind me she was starving.
WWW Wednesday is hosted at Taking on a World of Words. I am just rebelling and posting on Thursday's instead.
Top Ten Tuesday - Ten Audiobooks I Am Dying to Listen To
Okay, so this is not the topic for the week... But, I wasn't really feeling the current one and decided to make my own post this week. If you want to see the real topic, head over to The Broke and the Bookish.
I have made a, likely to change, list of books I would like to listen to next... They are:
Being Jazz: My Life a (Transgender) Teen ~ I am pretty sure this is a television show, but since we do not have cable I am only familiar with the book. I am really curious about how she sees the world and make her way in it.
The Guineveres ~ This is one of those books making the rounds lately that has caught my eye. It is compared to The Virgin Suicides and I love that book!
The Motion of Puppets ~ I really enjoyed The Stolen Child, but have yet to read on with Donohue. This book has been catching my eye for months and I love the cover. It is time for me to read Donohue again!
Feedback ~ I listened to the first three books, so makes sense to listen to the 4th!
The Mothers ~ Another one that has been catching my eye that I am thinking about doing on audio. It sounds good!
Ghostland ~ This sounds really good for this time of the year!
All the Birds in the Sky ~ I have been curious about this book all year! I also saw the author on a documentary and was interested by them, too!
Stiletto ~ I enjoyed the first book in this series on audio and am curious to see what happens next!
Jane Steele ~ I have been planning to read this all year and hear that the audio was good... Now to actually get to it!
Fellside ~ I really enjoyed The Girl with all the Gifts on audio so was planning to listen to this one, too, but then the e-book was on sale over the weekend so might just read it!
WWW Wednesday - On Thursday (2)
WWW Wednesday is a way to discuss your current read, recent reads, and what you plan to read next. I do it on Thursday because I am a rebel like that. It is hosted at Taking on a World of Words.
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
~ I am reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. I have read Hannah in the past, but her books were not like this one when I read her. I was surprised to see a bunch of buzz surrounding this one and discover it was about WWII. I just never got around to getting a copy. Then, I participated in a book exchange on Facebook and this is one of the books I was sent. I still took a couple months to pick it up, but I am so glad I did! I am really enjoying it and hope to finish it soon. I am also still reading The Geek Feminist Revolution. I should be a lot further into that than I am, but I have been reading an essay or two on my lunch break and I had a long weekend and kind of forgot about it. Hopefully I can find some time for it this week!
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY LISTENING TO?
~ I am continuing my random use of Scribd audios and went with What I Saw and How I Lied by Judy Blundell as my next listen. I have never heard of it before, but the synopsis sounded good and it was short. It is really good so far and I think it is my first time listening to an audio with a younger narrator. Or, at least she sounds young. I am still early into it, so we will see how it goes! For my audible listen, I am listening to Black Rabbit Hall. I am still early in because folks, I just either suck at time management or there are not enough hours in a day. I try to get better at it, but I just can't seem to...
WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
~ My most recent finish was The Dreamer, which I mentioned listening to last week. It was really good considering the bleak landscape it was set against. And, I really thought the narrator did a good job with the narration. It was only 3 hours and seemed to take me forever, but at least I have found a way to work an audio into other areas of my time. The other audio I was listening to last week was The Last Days of Magic and I ended up DNFing it. I really liked it, but it was so hard to keep the story straight on audio. I would have liked to have got a physical copy to follow along with, but the book is way too expensive even in e-book form. So, I plan to get the paperback in March and may try the audio again then, too.
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?
~ Last week I said Black Rabbit Hall, which turned out to actually happen. Yay, me! Otherwise, I am just picking what sounds good. I am making my way through everything so slowly that it is hard to commit to anything. I was hoping the fall could be a time to push through some of the books I have been neglecting all year, but not off to a good start!
